Omnisense, experts in making location as easy as 123, provides products and services leading the revolution for the adoption of location everywhere. We solve the tough problem of locating and positioning things and make it easy for users and application developers to access the information they require. At the core of this capability is our patented Joint Timing and Location Engine and our mesh networking stack which facilitates the capture and processing of ToA and ToD measurements. Location and Positioning Service

 

Our patented Joint Timing and Location Engine provides unique state-of-the-art cluster processing capability allowing devices to be positioned relative to one another in space-time without the need for conventional expensive fixed anchors, readers or access points. This enables systems to be deployed more quickly and at lower cost since the cost of infrastructure is minimised:

  • a standards-based API provides easy access to location information for applications using IP protocols such as HTTPS and JSON
  • our whereBox appliance provides a simple low-maintenance on-site solution
  • our knowhereanywhere cloud service provides easy scalable access for applications
  • location may be presented as 3D position coordinates (Cartesian or WGS) or contextually as zone occupancy, points of interest, in real-time or historically
  • the Decawave UWB technology gives very high accuracy (better than 0.3m)
  • the use of ToA (time-of-arrival) allows scaling to thousands of devices in a single system
  • with appropriate auxiliary sensors the JTLE delivers full orientation data
  • the JTLE integrates with BLE (beacons), GPS, INS (PDR), ToF and other positioning platforms
  • local positioning and navigation on devices is possible depending on device capability.

Protocol Stack

In order to present rich localisation information to applications it is necessary to capture suitable measurements from devices; to turn these into positions; and process the positions into location information for applications to access. The omniMesh stack manages the acquisition of ToA (time- of-arrival) and ToD (time-of-departure) measurements from the Decawave UWB chip and sends part-processed measurements to the Location Engine for final computation:

  • primarily based on ToA and ToD for scalability, but ToF can be used for smaller systems
  • supports multiple gateways between the wireless mesh network and conventional IP based infrastructure such as Ethernet and Wi-Fi
  • supports multiple hops for extended coverage
  • one-to-many protocols facilitate simultaneous capture of measurements for many neighbouring devices simultaneously, whether fixed or mobile
  • supports INS (accelerometer, gyro, magnetometer and barometer) measurements and other PDR or behaviour metrics
  • integrates with BLE at the device level (beacons and communications)
  • no single point of failure, and full support for device mobility
  • end-to-end security, including device authentication and management

Physical Devices

The S500 device family comprising: personnel node, development modules, and gateway devices, provides a complete hardware solution for many applications. By making reference designs available we encourage device developers to implement hardware platforms that directly support our measurement and communications stack and take advantage of our Location and Positioning Services. This enables devices developers and applications developers to get to market far quicker than would otherwise be possible:

  • our S500 is a fully featured platform built around an ARM cortex CPU with Decawave UWB chip, BLE and full 10-axis motion sensor suite
  • high accuracy, typically better than 0.3m for full 3D positioning, including orientation and motion characterisation
  • S500 is available as ready-for-market devices
  • modules supporting our stack and location services enable rapid development of new devices
  • reference designs are available facilitating custom device development while preserving all the advantageous of access to the protocol stack and location services
  • gateways provide easy connectivity using IP over Ethernet or Wi-Fi networks
  • willing to consider stack customisation for different hardware platforms
